History of the University

Valaya Alongkorn Rajabhat University under Royal Patronage was founded by her Royal Highness Somdetch Phra Raja PituchhaChao Fa Valaya Alongkorn, Krom Luang, the princess of Phetchaburi. On June 04,2475 B.E (1932 C.E), she donated .64 hectare of the land to the Ministry of Education to establish Petchburiwittayalongkorn Teacher Training school. The current address of this donation is numver 153, Petchburi road, Thung Phayathai Subdistrict, Rajathevi District, Bangkok. The first group was teacher-training students, other post-secondary students, and secondary school students who were transferred from Benjamorajalai School. The first headmaster was Ajarn Nilwart Bansitvorasan and color green was chosen as the school color because it was associated with Wednesday, the week on which H.R.H Princes Valaya Alongkorn was born.

1 October 2513 B.E (1970 C.E) the school was named Petchburiwittayalonngkorn Teacher College.

2515 B.E (1972 C.E) the college expanded to its present location at Number1, Moo 20, Phaholyothin Road, Klong Neung Subdistrict, Klong Luang District, Pthumthani Province.

14 November 2517 B.E (1974 C.E) The Majesty the King granted the royal patronage to PetchburiwittayalongkornTeacher College and its alumni.

9 November 2518 B.E (1975 C.E) Their majesties the King and Queen, along with the two princesses, made a royal visit to dedicate the statue of H.R.H Princess Somdetch Phra Raja Pituchha Chao Fa Valaya Alongkorn, Krom Luang, Princess of Petchburi. The King donated 100,000 Baht to establish the Somdetch Phra Raja Pituchha Chao Fa Valaya Alongkorn Foundation.

2520 B.E (1977 C.E) Approval was granted to offer the Bachelor Degree in .Education.

2528 B.E (1985 C.E) Approval was granted to offer Bachelor Degree in Education, the Bachelor Degree in Liberal Art, and the Bachelor Degree in Science.

14 February 2535 B.E (1992 C.E) His Majesty the King granted the name “Rajabhat Institute” to all Teachers’ College which means “civil servant.”

24 January 2538 B.E (1995 C.E) The Rajabhat Institute Act, 1995 was issued in the royal gazette, decreeing that the country’s Rajabhat Institute serve as a higher education.

2542 B.E (1999 C.E) The Bachelor Degree in Business Administration (two-year program) was offered.

2543 B.E (2000 C.E) The Bachelor Degree in Business Administration (four-year program) was offered.

14 February 2544 B.E (2001 C.E) Royal Highness Galvani Vadhana Krom Luang Narathivas Rajanakarin presided the opening ceremony of the 100th Anniversary Building and Rajanakarin Assembly Hall.

21 August 2545 B.E (2002 C.E) Majesty the King granted the royal permission for the college to be titled as “Rajabhat Institute Valaya Alongkorn under the Royal Patronage.”

10 June 2547 B.E (2004 C.E) Majesty the King signed the royal act “Rajabhat University Act 2547 B.E.”

Mission

Valaya Alongkorn Rajabhat University under the Royal Patronage has the following missions under the Rajabhat University Act 2547 B.E., Article 7 and 8: the Rajabhat University will serve as a higher education institute focusing on local development in order to promote national knowledge, to restore the nation’s wealth of knowledge, to preserve local wisdom and create new knowledge for the benefit, security and prosperity of Thai people. The Rajabhat University will engage in the equitable and sustainable management, conservation and use of natural resources and the environment. The objectives of the Rajbhat University are to educate; promote academic and higher professional knowledge; teach; conduct research; provide academic services to Thai society; improve, distribute and develop technology; conserve art and culture; educate students for teaching profession; and develop and upgrade the the skills of the teachers.

Article 5: in order to achieve Article 5, the Rajabhat University has the following duties:

· To raise the level of teacher productivity and staff development through productive learning. To establish a network of cooperation in line with national development policy and in accordance in the sufficiency economy philosophy.

·To research and develop responses for local problems. To develop a variety of systems that can be used to improve the quality of life and strengthen the local community.

· To develop collaborations between the university and the participants that fulfill its mission to disseminate information that promote the interest of the local community.

· To encourage and cultivate cultural awareness and learning. To create the organizational culture that leads to inspiration.

· To develop higher quality management system that support the sustainable development of the university.
